GENERAL

NAME: Jaime Emiliano Ochoa Castillo
NICKNAMES: Castillo, if you really want. If you want to annoy him call him Jamie. And by annoy him I mean make him pout.
AGE/DOB: 17 ; May 11th, 1997
BLOOD STATUS: Half-blood
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Male; he/him/his
SEXUALITY: Aggressively identifies as being straight. (He's had the occasional "weird" feelings at boys that make him really uncomfortable). Real talk though he's bi.
HOMETOWN: Pueblo Místico - a small, exclusive wizarding town on the edge of Reserva Especial de la Biosfera Cajón del Diablo (aka the Devil's Drawer) in Mexico.

CONCEPT: Sensitive attention-seeker achieves minor success at being responsible for once.

PHYSICAL

APPEARANCE: Jaime has a small magical tattoo of a wolf on the inside of his left wrist that he typically covers with a large leather bracelet. Despite its simplicity it does move around some. He's sporting a brand new (non-magical) tattoo this year too - two bands around his left bicep.

His physique is clearly indicative of his status as an athlete; he has a trim waist, broad shoulders, and clearly defined muscles. Jaime isn't shy about his body, even around boys, and is quick to take off his shirt when outside in the sun and summer heat. It's because of this that he's quite a bit tanner in the summer.

As for his uniform, Jaime used to wear it like a slob but since last year he's at least wearing all the pieces and most of the time they're not wrinkled. Despite not being overly dedicated to his school uniform, Jaime wears his Quidditch robes with pride and before a game they look much nicer than his school uniform ever does. Outside of his uniform the Azurcrest dresses fairly simply - plain t-shirts, polos, hoodies, and sometimes sweaters. He doesn't seem to pay much attention to his wardrobe though everything fits him well.

Of minor interest is the fact that he's left-handed.

HEIGHT: 5'10"

PB: Tyler Posey

PERSONALITY

LIKES: Quidditch, soccer, playing most sports, flying on his broom, animals (especially horses and wolves), positive attention, food (literally all of it), Muggle technology, movies, people trying to speak Spanish, running, kids.

DISLIKES: Being called Jamie, people being cruel to animals, physical affection with other boys, spending more than a few minutes alone with his father, studying, being left alone for too long, negative attention.

PERSONALITY:

Jaime makes best efforts at being a responsible young man with varying degrees of success. While his carefreeness has been somewhat curtailed by this desire to be more of an adult, he still remains, at his core, the same person he's always been. Cheerful and fun-loving, Jaime is all about having a good time and finding the joy in just about everything he does. Previously leaving out the whole "work hard" part of the equation, Jaime certainly knew how to play hard and continues to do so (with "moderation," of course, and a bit of work too). His enthusiasm for all his activities shines through in his perky, playful attitude. He's always looking for the next new fun activity and ultimately he's an extrovert who loves to be around people and be showered with attention. Jaime is optimistic and generally thinks the best of others, even when they maybe don't deserve it.

Though he's trying to be more responsible now he hasn't quite figured out the whole moderation thing yet. He won't stop anyone else from having fun, but he's either all in when it comes to questionable activities or he won't allow himself any piece of the fun. This inability to moderate means he's constantly pushing against his natural state and depriving himself, so in the end he's always looking for an excuse to claim that something reckless is acceptable - he had to climb the Ornery Oak for Addy's sake, he could go to Grotto parties and have fun because Anon was looking after him! His junior year saw him slipping back into his old ways fairly often by the end of the year.

When playing Quidditch, though, Jaime naturally seems to have a perfect balance of control and recklessness. He's got a serious knack for broom riding and when he's flying his broom is like a perfect extension of his body - he can pull off an impressive number of tricks and complicated maneuvers and he knows it. Because of this he loves to show-off (though not at the cost of the actual game) and lets go completely when flying. He has a similar experience with riding horses, a past time that stretches back into his childhood.

Thanks to his older brother and father's influences Jaime subscribes to the machismo ideal - bold women are utterly confusing, food is good, being strong is good, feelings are not to be spoken about unless they're anger. Or, at least, he tries to and has in some respects convinced himself he fits that mold. Despite his best efforts, Jaime is actually a sensitive young man who cares deeply about others' feelings. This can be seen especially in his interactions animals and children, the only situations where he allows his sensitive nature come out without later being self-conscious about it.

While he may refuse to acknowledge his own softer side, he's very understanding of others'. This isn't to say, however, that he wants to talk about feelings. When approaching someone who is upset, his first instinct is to distract them. It's really the only way he knows how to manage the situation, and he'll try to his hardest to cheer others up by doing this, even if it means being the butt of a joke. He's a dedicated friend and will put his all into something if it's important to someone else.

Jaime is a trusting person and can sometimes be gullible because of this, though he won't be caught by obviously blatant lies. His gullibility is only exacerbated by the fact that he's not the sharpest tool in the shed; while not woefully unintelligent, he's clearly not ever going to be at the top of the class in anything. This is not something he is worried about or ashamed of, and he completely seems to embrace both this and his trusting nature.

SKILLS

LANGUAGES SPOKEN: English & (Mexican) Spanish. He'll often speak Spanish without realizing it when he's really sleepy. He clearly has an accent when he speaks English.

PATRONUS: Gypsy Vanner horse; not only did Jaime grow up around horses, but the social and hardworking nature of this particular breed mirror some of his better qualities. Can successfully cast a full-bodied patronus.

SKILLS:
[Sports]: Jaime has considerable skill in Quidditch as a Chaser, though some of this was unrealized because he didn't take the game too seriously until coming into his senior year. His broom work is especially impressive. He's also good at soccer, though much of this skill comes in his ability to do tricks that many times aren't actually useful in a game.
[Animals]: Though he isn't infinitely knowledgeable about animals, he has a very gentle touch with them and most animals take to him rather quickly. He's a good horseback rider, having been riding since he was young.
[Kids]: Jaime is good with kids - he's attentive and likes to play with them, and after the incident with his younger brother he's considerably more careful with them. He's the kind of person who would probably end up babysitting half the kids at a picnic.
[Anti-skill - Crafting]: Jaime is almost comically bad at crafting - oftentimes it looks like a small child has completed his project as opposed to a teenaged boy. He doesn't seem to mind, though.

HISTORY

FAMILY MEMBERS:

Francisco Castillo - Father - Wizarding Defense Lawyer
A quiet, serious man, Francisco mourned the loss of his first wife until only very shortly before meeting his second. He's rather distant with his children and doesn't believe in giving much affection to them despite how much he does care for them. A very traditional man, he believes in a separation between the magical world and the world of no-majs (though he doesn't look down on muggleborns in the least), believes that women should put being a mother and homemaker above any job they may have, and respects authority. He and Jaime have never had a particularly close relationship, partially due to Francisco's nature and partially because Jaime's mother died giving birth to him, something Francisco has had a hard time letting go of.

Guadalupe "Lupita" Ochoa Castillo - Mother - Homemaker - Deceased
Though Lupita died when giving birth to Jaime signs of her were everywhere in the house up until Francisco remarried. A large portrait of her hung in the foyer of their home, her sewing room remained untouched, a half-finished dress still on the dress form, and his father talked about her constantly as though she were still alive. She was a patient woman that was a friend to all animals. She was a homemaker who doted on Jaime's older brother and would have likely doted on Jaime had she lived. Muggleborn. Her family crest bears a wolf and is the reason for Jaime's fascination with wolves.

Alejandra Caldera Castillo - Step-Mother - Homemaker | Semi-retired Horse Trainer
Alejandra married Francisco 7 years ago and almost immediately after she became pregnant with their only child together, Agustin. Alejandra is a kind-hearted if somewhat demure woman who cares about taking care of her children, pleasing her husband, and continuing to assist in training her sisters' horses which she loves deeply. While her start with Jaime was somewhat rocky, she managed to convince the boy to spend some time with her in the stables and slowly but surely the two built up a strong relationship as Jaime opened his emotional barriers. She cares deeply for all of her children and Francisco's. She does, however, always defer to her husband.

Marco Castillo - Older Brother - Junior Lawyer - 21 years old
Marco loves his younger brother and much like Jaime he's fought to be the kind of man their father wants him to be. Unlike Jaime, though, he's had an easier time because of his focus and intelligence. While not brilliant, Marco's perseverance and ability to sit down and study allowed him to graduate from Coyopamienzo with good enough marks to get him into his father's old law school. Marco finished law school last year and now works at his father's firm. Like many older brothers he picked on Jaime some, especially because of his ability to charm animals like their mother, often calling him Snow White. Still, he loves Jaime and is fairly accommodating when it comes to sending him things he asks for. He's a bit of a goofball, but he hides it very very well, especially around their father.

Ariela Caldera - Older Step-Sister - Art School Student - 19 years old
Ariela doesn't like Francisco because of his old-time ideas about women and his stiffness. She's very close to her mother, though, and while she was relatively neutral towards Jaime and his older brother initially, once Jaime became very close with her mother Ariela began to resent her half-brother. He has no idea of her hand in the accident, but she's been trying to be a bit kinder to him now after he's made efforts to improve himself. When at home from school Ariela spends the bulk of her time next door at her aunts'. Since graduating from Coyopamienzo, she was accepted to a magical art college. She's hoping to become a tattoo artist, but she can tell her mother and step-father after they're no longer paying for her schooling, right?

Agustin Castillo - Younger Half-Brother - 7 years old
Jaime adores Agustin. The little boy is happy, sweet, and hasn't yet started trying too hard to please Francisco. He simply wants to play with his older siblings and spend time around them and his mother. Jaime would do anything for the boy.

HISTORY:

When Jaime was born his mother, Lupita, passed away in childbirth, leaving a devastated husband, a 4 year old son, and her new born baby boy. Jaime and Marco were raised by a rotating legion of nannies while their father grieved and threw himself into his work. Though Jaime never knew his mother he felt as though he did, subsisting on stories from his father and what little his brother could remember as well as all the pieces of her life that still remained scattered about the house.

Generally his childhood was relatively carefree when he wasn't trying to win over his father - he spent most of his time outside, playing with Marco and whatever animals he could coax near him. He attended a very small magic school in Pueblo Místico, simply called Pueblo Místico Prep. When he was 9 a divorced woman, her two sisters, and her daughter took over the old ranch next door. Excited at the prospect of sneaking over to see horses, Jaime spent some time hanging around the fence and talking to the adult women whenever they were in earshot. When Francisco finally agreed to take him and Marco over to meet their new neighbors, Francisco was almost immediately smitten with the divorced mother, Alejandra. They began their courtship quickly and were married within a year. Feeling his mother's spirit was being dishonored and frustrated with his own hand in their match-up, Jaime was surly around Alejandra whenever his father wasn't around, even though he feel in love with Agustin the moment he was born.

Going to Coyopamienzo, a wizarding boarding school in the Yucatan peninsula, was something of a respite for Jaime from what he viewed as a less than ideal home life. Sorted into the same house as his older brother, he was something of an awkward child, having had limited interaction with others his age due to his small school. He soon found out, however, that he was something of a wiz on a broom and this skill moved him up considerably in the social ladder. He became increasingly reckless but with relatively minimal consequences. It was his abilities on a broom and his reputation as essentially an animal whisperer that ended up getting him into Gooseberry, a move he wanted after feeling stifled by the presence of his older step-sister and brother. He fit right in at Azurcrest and enjoyed having his own space to grow away from his family.

Though it took some time, about three years ago Jaime finally built up a closer relationship with his step-mother. The two spent a lot of time working with her sisters' horses together and soon Alejandra became something of a confidant for Jaime. Given that Ariela didn't find herself fitting in well with her new family, she became more and more frustrated with her mother's closeness with Jaime. After all, she wasn't even his real mother, and the time Alejandra spend with Jaime could have been spent with her instead. Coupled with this, Jaime's recklessness seemed to either go unnoticed by Alejandra or was simply forgiven.

Ariela finally had had enough the summer in between Jaime's sophomore and J=junior year when she asked her mother to go on a ride with her and found her already saddling up to go with Jaime. Wanting to show her mother that Jaime was really just a reckless child not worth her attention, Ariela spiked a beer Jaime was (sneakily) drinking at his step-aunt's birthday party with a very intense potion meant to exacerbate the affects of the alcohol. Jaime was quickly inebriated and decided it was a good idea to take Agustin up on his broom. During a completely reckless trick relatively high off the ground Agustin was thrown from the broom and it was only thanks to Jaime's skills that he managed to save the boy. He dove and grabbed him just before he hit the ground to shield him with his body, leaving Agustin with only a few scrapes and bruises but Jaime with a few broken ribs and a concussion. After they were both rushed to a healer Francisco flew into a rage, berating his son for risking his brother's life and being so intoxicated, especially at his age. Ariela was horrified, not having meant anything more serious than exposure of Jaime's recklessness, but she remained silent on her part in the episode. Alejandra, ever the quiet and obedient wife, said nothing to comfort the boy. It was after this that Jaime decided to shape up. Wanting to earn back his father and step-mother's trust, he's been doing his best to be a model son. He has no idea of Ariela's involvement and simply takes her increased kindness to him as pity.

It was thus unsurprising that Jaime's junior year began with very serious attempts at being "responsible," most of which failed. As the year continued he quickly began to find excuses to be reckless again, always explaining away to himself why something wasn't as bad as it seemed or why it made sense for him to do it. Though he was still often doing whatever he wanted, he didn't take quite so many risks, partied less, and did manage to improve in other areas. His grades improved drastically, and gradually he came to take Quidditch more seriously. He convinced himself that this was responsibility! He was successful! Jaime also began forming tighter friendships with some new faces, most notably his new roommate Lachlan and Ennis. All of this meant that he found himself happy and comfortable at Gooseberry by the time the year was coming to a close.

The semester didn't finish up cleanly, though. Jaime was one of the students who was brought by Brother to find those taken by Anon, and thus he was awake for the entire events of their final night at Gooseberry. As things were unfolding Jaime found himself less prepared than he would have liked to be, and many times felt stunned into inaction. Still, though, he did his best to keep his optimism, and manage to emerge from the night relatively fine. It helped that he was able to assist in the rescue of his closest friends (Addy, Ennis, and Lachlan), giving him some reassurance that he had at least done something good that night. Though initially fairly unsettled by those events, Jaime isn't one to dwell on things. A bit of time home, coupled with visits to Ennis and Lachlan, was enough to shake him of any of his lingering negative feelings, leaving him ready to return to Gooseberry in the new year.

SCHOOL

YEAR: Senior
HOUSE: Azurcrest
SORTING: Ebonhide and Ribbonfin are just boring to Jaime - while somewhat torn between Coppertale and Azurcrest, his draw towards more fun and less competition landed him with the blue jay.
WAND: Teak, kraken beak core, 11 1/3", rigid. Like teak often does, it smells faintly of leather.
FAMILIAR:
A rather dark barn owl named Fenrir. A genetic condition has made him darkly colored and a little smaller than your average barn owl. Jaime found the poor little guy sickly on their property and rescued him.

He's very squeaky and it takes him a long time to not be petrified of new people; he's moderately used to Jaime's cabinmates by now, but Fenrir shies away from most others. When he delivers things he often just throws the letter or package at people and flies away as quickly as possible.

CLASSES: History of Magic. Charms. Herbology. Potions. Magizoology. Defense Against the Dark Arts.
ADVANCED STUDY: Muggle Technology (Beginner Level). Jaime has always shown a deep interest in Muggle technology, so being able to study it formally is a dream come true to him. He's spent his whole life living in a secluded Wizarding village, so he hasn't had many opportunities to interact with technology outside of what his friends have shown him at Gooseberry and what he's seen on his trips to visit friends. He'll bring a lot of enthusiasm to the class because he genuinely cares about the subject matter.
SENIOR PROJECT: Since Jaime isn't the best student it's not horribly surprising he's starting out his senior year without a well-defined senior project. He's intending to find something in the realm of Magizoology, but he spent his summer having fun instead of thinking about school. Oooops.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Not great, but Jaime picked up the pace last year and steadily improved his grades as compared to his freshman and sophomore years. He still falls squarely at the lower end of average in most of his classes now, but does quite well in Magizoology when the task doesn't involve simply memorization. In fact, memorization is really where Jaime struggles, primarily because his attention span isn't fantastic. He's decent at the execution of spells... as long as he can remember how to do them.

EXTRACURRICULARS:
[Quidditch] (Chaser - Captain): Jaime's always been a team player in just about everything in his life, so he made his best efforts to blend into the team and continues to play with a chipper and very team-oriented attitude. Though ultimately Jaime sees Quidditch as a game that's supposed to be fun, he's started taking it more and more seriously the longer he's played. He took it seriously enough his junior year to be named Captain for his senior year, so he's coming in with a much more focused intention for the team.
[Dueling]: This is not a club that Jaime takes horribly seriously - he essentially joined because it seemed cool and masculine, or something. While he's not going to put his all in necessarily and he won't always show up, he doesn't goof off during practice at least.
[Equestrian]: Jaime loves animals and grew up around horses, so Equestrian Club is a no brainer. He's a natural with the horses and is comfortable riding.
